The 8th Annual Classic Car Show is this weekend, May 31 – June 2, 2013. There will be a Meet and Greet for the participants at 6:00 p.m. the first evening., followed by a live performances. Saturday June1st is the Show and Shine in Brandenburg Park from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

MAY 17-18 HALF-MARATHON

May 17-18 is the 3rd Annual Half Marathon & 5K. It’s still considered a “fun-run,” so even if you haven’t been training for this year’s event, it’s still okay to get out for a nice run

THE OLD PASS

Once upon a time, this road, now called the Old Red River Pass, was the only way in and out of Red River. Tales exist of brave souls hitching felled trees behind their vehicle to keep them from going too fast down the pass. Today, with modern vehicles and off-road mules, this drive is much easier, but just as beautiful.

From town center, take Hwy 578 past the Y and head for the upper valley. About 1/2 mile up you’ll see the sign on your left for Forest Rd 487. High ground clearance vehicles are strongly recommended.

When you reach the top, be sure to stop at the scenic overlook where you’ll be able to see Red River in the distance. There is also a tree stump which has reportedly been struck by lighting several times! The view is simply majestic!

FUN UP PIONEER CREEK

When visiting Red River, be sure to enjoy a trip up Pioneer Creek Rd. It’s just around the corner from the Auslander and runs behind the Red River Ski Area. You can hike it, bike it, horseback it, drive it, and even take your motorcycle/ATV up it. Enjoy miles of the valley’s beauty!

Spring Break in Red River New Mexico is commonly referred to as “Beach Week” with wonderful sunshine, blue skies, and lots of college students up on the mountain and having a good time in town. Skiing rarely gets any better, so if you don’t have plans for Spring Break, head to Red River. We have plenty to do and lodging is still available. Be sure to check out the local discounts while in town!
